Professor William Tetley, distinguished jurist, statesman and teacher and author in the field of Canadian and international maritime law and the conflict of laws, an Honorary Life Member of the CMLA, and a  personal friend of so many people around the world, died peacefully on July 1st, 2014, at the long-term care residence in Montreal where he has been for some months.

Visitation will take place at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Home, 1255 Beaumont Street, Town of Mount Royal, Quebec, on Monday, July 7, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 900 Laird Boulevard, Town of Mount Royal, Quebec. 

Letters of sympathy to the family may be sent to his widow, Rosslyn, at 1935 Graham Boulevard, Unit 527, Town of Mount Royal, Quebec H3R 1R1.

Professor Tetley was a giant in the field of admiralty and maritime law, whose teaching and publications were respected internationally. As a former Quebec cabinet minister, he was also a great and passionate Canadian, whose passing from this world on Canada Day seems fitting. He was also a warm and personable man, a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a true Christian, whom generations of colleagues and students regarded as a friend, advisor and supporter. He will be deeply missed by a legion of admirers around the world. May he rest in peace.
